Did you know?
In 2024, more than 1 in 19 middle schoolers and 1 in 10 high schoolers in the US reported current use of a tobacco product. That’s a significant number. The Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey is a tool to better understand and address students’ attitudes and usage of e-cigarettes, tobacco, and more.

What it is.
The digital Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey is designed for youth grades 6–12. Anonymous and confidential, the survey focuses on youth attitudes, behaviors, and perceptions related to tobacco products, as well as health conditions like asthma.
How it’s different.
Unlike broader youth surveys, the Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey zeroes in on the specifics of smoking and vaping, including attitudes, behavior, and even health conditions like asthma. With focused insights from the survey, we can understand future needs of today’s young people that can lead to strengthened policies, engaging educational programs, and so much more.
How you help.
Convenience is key, especially during busy school days. Our team provides tablets (or students can even use their own phones) and assistance from setup to completion. The survey, which takes just 25 minutes, can be conducted during homeroom, non-instructional time, or after hours.
What you get.
By participating in the survey, your school helps inform youth tobacco use and familiarity trends statewide, helping design programs and policies aimed at increasing tobacco use prevention and cessation. Additionally, your school will receive $1,000, a comprehensive school report, and the opportunity to win a top prize for the school with the highest participation rate.
